1月25日に品川区立大井図書館で英語のおはなし会をしました。インドネシア出身のソフィアが「食べ物」をテーマにした絵本とゲーム、そしてインドネシアのことを話しました。最初にソフィアは、インドネシアの人力車（rickshaw）の模型を見せて、「日本の人力車は、前に運転手がいてお客さんが座っている車を引っ張るけれど、インドネシアでは運転手が後ろに入り、お客さんが座っている車を押す」という違いを教えてくれました。続いて英語で「The Very Hungry Caterpillar」を読み、食べ物の名前を覚えました。そして、覚えた食べ物の名前のゲームを楽しみました。小さい子どもたちは、「Strawberries are Red」のはなしを読み、どんな色の何の食べ物が好きかを話しました。小学生は、「Ketchup in Your Cornflakes？」というおもしろい本を読んで、子どもたちは大爆笑でした。最後は、インドネシアのゲームで日本の「すごろく」に似ている「Snakes and Ladder」というゲームで遊びました。英語の絵本やゲームと、インドネシアのことをたくさん知ることができた楽しい会になりました。

On January 25, we held an English storytelling session at Shinagawa Oi Library. Sophia from Indonesia read English picture books all centered around the theme of “food”, and introduced to Indonesia. Sophia showed us a model of an Indonesian rickshaw. She highlighted the difference between Japanese rickshaws and Indonesian ones, noting that in Japan, the driver pulls the cart while the passengers sit in the front. In Indonesia, however, the driver sits behind and pushes the cart. Afterward, we read the English version of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, and learned the names of various foods in English. Following the reading, we enjoyed a game using the food names we had just learned. The younger group then read “Strawberries Are Red” and discussed their favorite food colors. Meanwhile, the older group enjoyed the humorous book “Ketchup on Your Cornflakes?”, which had everyone laughing at its funny and surprising content. To wrap up the event, we played “Snakes and Ladders”, an Indonesian game very similar to the Japanese board game “Sugoroku”. The session was filled with fun, featuring English picture books, engaging games, and fascinating insights into Indonesian culture.
