1月（がつ）25日（にち）、品川区（しながわく）の大井図書館（おおいちょしょかん）で
ケニア出身（しゅっしん）のメンバーによる英語（えいご）のおはなし会（かい）を行（おこな）いました。

今回（こんかい）のテーマは「食（た）べもの」と「色（いろ）」。
 Sandwich Sandwich
 Ketchup on Your Cornflakes
の2冊（さつ）を読（よ）みました。

30分（ぷん）のおはなし会（かい）で、私（わたし）たちが大切（たいせつ）にしているのは
「お話（はなし）を通（とお）して、講師（こうし）の国（くに）を知（し）ること」。

地図（ちず）を見（み）ながら
「この先生（せんせい）の国（くに）はどこだと思（おも）う？」と聞（き）くと、国旗（こっき）を見（み）てすぐに「ケニア！」と答（こた）える子（こ）どもたち。

そのあとは質問（しつもん）タイム。
「ケニアにはどんな動物（どうつ）がいるの？」
「キリンやゾウがいるよ」と聞（き）くと、
キリンが窓（まど）から顔（かお）を出（だ）して、

近（ちか）くで会（あ）えるホテルがあることも教（おし）えてもらいました。

目（め）をキラキラさせて話（はなし）を聞（き）く子（こ）どもたちの姿（すがた）が、とても印象的（いんしょうてき）でした。

また、大井図書館（おおいとしょかん）には
 「読（よ）んでみよう！英語（えいご）の本（ほん）」コーナーもありました。改（あらた）めてご紹介（しょうかい）します!

English Storytime at Oi Library

On January 25, we held an English storytime at Oi Library in Shinagawa,

led by one of our members from Kenya.

The theme was food and colors, and we read:
 Sandwich Sandwich
 Ketchup on Your Cornflakes

What we value most in our storytime sessions is not only the stories themselves,

but also learning about the storyteller’s home country.

While looking at a map, we asked the children,
“Where do you think the storyteller is from?”
They quickly spotted the flag and answered, “Kenya!”

The children had many questions after that.
When asked what animals live in Kenya, they learned about giraffes and elephants

— and even heard about a hotel where giraffes come right up to the windows!

The children listened with sparkling eyes, clearly excited and curious.

Oi Library also has a lovely corner called
 “Let’s Try Reading English Books”
