  • \Multilingual Storytime in Japanese, German and Spanish/ Thank you to everyone who came out to join our multilingual storytime today! Three of the passionate storytellers from Japan, Germany, and Costa Rica get started by introducing themselves in their native language and showed us the location of each country on the world map with a flag. Before reading the book “ いちご Strawberry” we have checked out the vocabulary of colors and fruits in three different languages by reading the book “ Strawberries are red”. Each storyteller read phrase by phrase like followings. 赤いいちご (Japanese)
 Rote erdbeeren (German)
Fresa roja (Spanish) Even the 4year-old children stared at the storytellers and listened very curiously !!! After reading the book, we enjoyed the mission game, and children tried to introduce themselves in three languages at each storyteller’s booth. We are so impressed that Japanese kids naturally started to show how to play kendama, a Japanese skill toy for German kids. Meanwhile, Japanese children turned the pages of German books and listened to the Costa Rican doll explanation as those are unique to see in Japan. SCC will keep immersing children in culturally diverse activities and raise them more comfortable with the difference in race, religion, and language! #sharingcaringculture #multilingualstorytime #embracediversecultures #yokohamainternationalcommunity #diversityinclusioncommunity

  • Thank you so much for joining our virtual cooking class with your kids today! During this COVID-19 pandemic, we have shifted our cooking event from offline to online and found out how convenient and efficient it is. Nahoko, who has experience working in a Sushi restaurant in Sydney and runs a Japanese cooking class for international visitors, taught us in English how to make sushi rice(vinegared rice) and the technique of rolling sushi. Children from 4yrs to 9yrs all engaged in cooking, mixed the cooked rice with sushi vinegar, spread the sushi rice onto nori seaweed, placed the topping, and rolled with a bamboo roll mat. My 9yrs old daughter and I joined, and she said how tasty it is! Seems so satisfied eating the meal prepared by herself. We are offering a simple recipe for families with children aged 4-12 years old. All the ingredients are easy to prepare and won’t break your budget. The next hands-on online cooking class for kids will be Indian cooking in May! You are going to love it! #sharingcaringculture #yorokobikitchen #japanesecookingclassforkids #thicksushirolls #ehomakisushiroll #washoku #yokohama #internationalcommunity #unleashingthepowerofdiversity #nonprofit #englishactivityforkids
